The breakfast game in Dubai is one to experience, and with winter’s arrival, weekends in Dubai are looking somewhat more promising. Restaurants are opening their terraces and people are seen mingling, sipping on colourful drinks and indulging in a variety of international cuisine. We recently had a catch up at Friends’ Avenue Café in JLT for a wholesome breakfast and cold brewed coffee, and what a pleasant surprise greeted us.
This spot is perfect for the active foodies and coffee connoisseurs, with a relaxed and playful ambiance. I felt right at home with the decor taking me back to Cape Town’s hipster neighbourhoods and contemporary restaurants. Vintage bicycles adorn exposed brick walls, and the naked bulbs hanging from the industrial ceilings creates a ‘chilled-out’ space for ‘chilled-out’ people.
The menu is packed and caters for everyone. From health conscious eaters to the fitness enthusiasts trying to fill up for their day out-and-about Dubai. My favourite was the ‘Tricolor Eggs Benedict’ and I couldn’t resist stealing a few bites from my husband’s ‘Big Brekkie Board’. The creative menu got me in one go and the food was living up to the expectation. Top this menu with good company and excellent service and this might just become your new favourite spot in Dubai.
The coffee was on a whole different level with beans brewed in Dubai by local roastery: RAW Coffee Company. You can choose from a selection of ‘cold brewed’ coffees including a ‘Cold Brew Fizz’ (cold brew, orange juice, soda water, cinnamon), or you can just have your coffee the traditional way.
If a morning fix is not what you are looking for, Friends’ Avenue Café offers an exquisite lunch. From salads and sandwiches to hearty main courses including: ‘Maple and Walnut crusted Salmon’ and the “Insanity” Burger.
Friends Avenue is located in JLT Ground Floor, Fortune Executive Tower, Cluster T, JLT – Dubai, a second branch opened in Motor City Ribbon Mall.
Opening hours: Sunday to Saturday: 08:00Am to 10:00PM
